I am Jack's raging brain. I am Jack's cold sweat. I am Jack's complete lack of surprise. I am Jack's inflamed sense of rejection. I am Jack's smirking revenge. I am Jack's broken heart. If you still do not have a clue about what I am talking about, then by all means stop. This is not for you. It's about a movie that I'm not allowed to talk about. I am breaking our rules here.
One thing you should know about me is that there's this movie directed by David Fincher that stars Brad Pitt and Edward Norton that I'm so crazy about. And I found out recently that Radiohead was asked to work on the soundtrack of this movie. Not so long ago, I found out that Thom declined to work with Paul Fucking McCartney, and now I will find out about this. War, poverty, hurricanes in Florida, scorching heat in Metro Manila, idiot vloggers, and narcissistic celebrities running for politics—and now this, Radiohead, almost scored the soundtrack of my favourite movie! Thom I am telling you, Everything Is Not In Its Right Place.
It's no secret that Brad Pitt is a fan of Radiohead. In fact, their first public appearance together of his then girlfriend, now ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, was from a Radiohead concert way back in 1998. Anyway, based on the interview that I have read, by the time Thom was asked to do the project, he was not in a very good state of mind. OK Computer was already in the airwaves, and their album tour had just finished. When Achilles and King Baldwin IV sent him the script, he just couldn't do it. It was such a missed opportunity. Never mind the score of the film. The whole OK Computer album fits perfectly for the theme of that movie for crying out loud. Especially Fitter Happier—that one song in OK Computer that most Radiohead fans do not appreciate. And don't ask me about my favourite track, Let Down. Man, I have seen that song used in the Season 1 finale of The Bear, and it was so good. If you had watched that movie, you would understand how I feel. Radiohead would've made that film from a cult classic to legendary status. Right now, I could only imagine No Surprises playing in the last scene of that movie, as the main characters held each other's hands as the buildings started exploding and collapsing to the ground before the credit rolls. Can you imagine if Paranoid Android was playing as the people beat living crap out of each other in that basement scene? And Airbag! There is a car crash scene in there!
What the hell am I rambling about? It was still great. The Pixies were tapped to do the gig. Their song Where Is My Mind was featured in the movie. The Dust Brothers were asked to score the film.
And you, yeah, I am talking to you. If you haven't watched the movie that I am talking about, then too bad. You are missing something, buddy. What I can only tell you is that you should watch it. I will not tell you the name of it. We have rules. And remember, this is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time.
